Snowboarding

Snowboarding is a sport that involves descending a snow-covered slope on a snowboard attached to a rider’s feet using a special boot set onto mounted binding.

In 2011, 7 945 Special Olympics Athletes competed in Snowboarding events and 37 Special Olympics Programs hosted Snowboarding competitions.

Snowboarding was established at Special Olympics in 2001.

At Special Olympics Sweden Invitational Games 2020 and Special Olympics World Winter Games 2021 athletes will compete in the following events (Novice, Intermediate and Advanced levels):

• Slalom
• Giant Slalom
• Super Giant Slalom

Rules

Special Olympics does not offer as many snowboarding events as the Federation Internationale de Skie. Because of the safety considerations, for instance, half pipe, snowboard cross, or parallel events, is not offered.

Duved

Competitions in snowboarding will take place in Duved, a few kilometers west of Åre. Duved has its very own ski system and the area is a popular destination for families and ski enthusiasts due to its excellent downhill as well as cross country skiing. Read more about Duved.
